Postgraduate programmes in journalism at El-Roi London University offer the opportunity to research and learn in an environment that combines excellence in the practice of convergent multimedia journalism with intellectual leadership in the history, ethics and future of the news industry. The MA in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication sets graduates from a wide range of backgrounds on a career path in the news industry. You learn to report for newspapers, websites, radio and television professionally. Emancipatory knowing cultivates awareness of how problematic conditions converge, reproduce, and remain in place to sustain an unfair status quo for some groups within society. Awareness of social injustices and inequities leads to processes culminating in praxis, the integrated expression of emancipatory knowing. Emancipatory knowing means questioning the nature of knowledge and how knowledge itself—or what is taken to be knowledge—contributes to more significant social problems.

Entry requirements

A second-class honours degree (2.2 or above) in a relevant academic subject (e.g., politics, history, English, international relations) and demonstrable interest in and aptitude for journalism. Suitably qualified applicants will be invited for an interview and required to take an entrance test. The Centre will consider candidates who have not followed a conventional education path in certain circumstances. These cases are assessed individually by the Head of the Centre, Director of Learning and Teaching, and Director of Graduate Studies. All applicants are considered separately, and additional qualifications, professional qualifications and relevant experience may also be considered when considering applications.
